ABOUT

I am a native English speaker with a degree in Latin and English from Nottingham University, where I was also editor of the student magazine. I speak basic Italian, Spanish and French. A decade working at Heffers Booksellers in Cambridge taught me everything from customer service to bookselling and publishing. And another decade at St John's College (Cambridge) involved creating high-quality publications for the College. I am an Intermediate-Level Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

In my spare time

When I'm not proof-editing, power walking or cardio dancing, I manage The Sanctuary Angels, a small voluntary organisation that helps animal rescues around the world. And I am a mum to three beautiful rescue cats: Pablo, Huey and Martha.

MY EXPERIENCE

My first job after graduating from Nottingham University was at Heffers Booksellers, Cambridge, the perfect environment for a bookworm to learn about everything from customer service to marketing and publishing. Then, as Publications Officer at St John's College, Cambridge, I produced high-quality literature, which required thoroughness, flexibility and ninja-like organisation and communication skills. I understand basic Italian, Spanish and French. Since 2009 I have worked as a freelance proofreader and copy-editor on various projects with publishers, universities, colleges, charities, businesses, book authors, students and academics. I am an Intermediate-Level Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). â€‹I will bring precision, clarity and consistency to your academic project, book draft, blog, brochure, website or report – whatever you have written, I will make sure it looks its very best.

I also run an animal charity

I am passionate about animals and our beautiful planet. In 2008 I created The Sanctuary Angels, a small voluntary organisation that educates people about cruelty-free living while raising vital funds for animals and their rescuers around the world. Running the charity means that I get to practise my writing and editing every day: I co-manage our Facebook page and ensure that our website is kept up to date. I also create all of the material for our campaigns and educational material. We have raised more than £97,000 for animal rescues around the world, which we give out in the form of £500 Angel Grants. You can read more about our work here: thesanctuaryangels.com.
