About me

Editing for academics, businesses, and charities

My academic clients want to know their work is styled correctly, grammatically sound, and academically rigorous – and accessible to readers within and outside their community. They might need their references styled and checked, as well as formatting and basic fact-checking.

Businesses and charities want solid grammar and styling too, but they also benefit from plain English – simple writing that informs or inspires their readers to take action. ​​

Whatever they need, and whether or not they have used AI to draft or check their work, I provide professional editorial support; helpful comments that educate and connect editor and client; and collaboration, kindness, and empathy.

And a bit about me, the person

When I left St John's College in 2009, I also created The Sanctuary Angels, a voluntary organisation that raises awareness and vital funds for animals and their rescuers around the world. You can read about our work here. And I have three beautiful rescue cats (fur children): Martha, Pablo Pete, and Huey Bee. Martha is as tiny and black as the boys are large and tabby. 

 

I spend a lot of my time power walking and cardio dancing, which are excellent mood boosters and a great way to stretch the body after long hours spent at a desk. Taking photos, the quirkier the angle the better, has also become a passion – trees, rivers, flowers, wildlife, and amazing buildings make the best subjects. And my favourite languages are Italian, Latin, Spanish, and French, in that order.

 

Finally, I'm partial to train travel. A steam train, the LNER Azuma, or the Eurostar – as long as there's no road rage, rubbish drivers, and potholes, I'm there, watching the world go by and having random and wonderful conversations with total strangers.
