Plain English

What is plain English (or plain language)?
Plain English ensures that your message can be understood by everyone. Some simple plain English principles include: keeping words, sentences and paragraphs short; using simple language and avoiding jargon; avoiding metaphors, similes and idioms; using the active voice rather than the passive; and avoiding nominalisations.

How can I help you?
Whether you're writing academic papers, research summaries, policy briefs or business reports, I will make sure your message is clear and consistent, using a combination of proofreading, copy-editing and plain English. These techniques can also strengthen your website or social media copy so your readers know exactly what you want to say.

"It is like having an ally on my side amplifying my voice"
Amanda is the only person on earth who has read almost all I ever wrote. I have trusted her proof-editing skills for decades. I can rely on her when it comes to tight deadlines, unorthodox content or unpacking weirdly entangled sentences. I know she will make my texts sound more logical, structured and sane. It is like having an ally on my side amplifying my voice.
