PROOFREADING involves identifying typographical, linguistic, coding or positional errors and omissions on a printed or electronic proof, and marking corrections. The task of the proofreader is to make any corrections, ensuring that there are no typographical errors in the text and that house style is applied consistently. Proofreaders may also catch grammatical errors and inconsistency of style.

I am a qualified proofreader and I have a wealth of experience in proofreading, for both publishing houses (on hard copy) and private individuals (electronically).

Past projects include student essays, academic papers, journal articles, book manuscripts, CVs, websites, flyers, brochures, letters, personal statements and reports.

I can work with any academic style, ensuring that it is applied throughout the document. I can also apply my own house style throughout if you prefer.

COPY-EDITING is the preparation of a text for publication, including stylistic, structural, intrusive and substantive editing, where applicable. The copy-editor's task is to ensure that the writer's prose observes the conventions of good writing. He or she makes sure that the manuscript's syntax is smooth, punctuation is appropriate and correctly placed, and the writing follows grammatical conventions.

I am a qualified copy-editor with extensive experience of working with students, researchers and academics, particularly those for whom English is a second language.

COPYWRITING is writing copy (text) for the purpose of advertising or marketing a product, business, person, opinion or idea. The reader of the copy is meant to be persuaded to buy the product advertised, or to subscribe to the viewpoint shared in the text.

I created and edited copy for various publications in my role as Publications Officer at St John's College, Cambridge, including the Johnian News and The Eagle.

I also drafted letters and produced copy on a freelance basis for international charity FOUR PAWS, including press releases, website copy and social media pages.

In my spare time I create the copy for the animal charity that I set up in 2009, The Sanctuary Angels (www.thesanctuaryangels.com). I also produce, edit and proofread material for various organisations and individuals.
